Ceremony for a new Kalimaye at La Balise Marina

At an official ceremony held at Black River yesterday, keys of a Kalimaye, a place of worship, were handed over to representatives of the Marathi community of Black River by the promoters of La Balise Marina.

An agreement was made earlier this year between the promoters of the project and the representatives of the Marathi community for the relocation of the Kalimaye on the site of La Balise Marina. A free of charge land of 160 m2 was put at their disposal and a "kalimaye" was set up by La Balise Marina according to the recommendations given by the religious representatives and the executive committee of the Marathi community.


In his speech, Mr. Santaram Sukhoo, president of the association of Marathis thanked the promoters of La Balise Marina. "I am sincerely thankful to La Balise Marina for having provided us with this land endowed with such a beautiful kalimaye. The members of the Marathi community and myself are very proud of this Kalimaye and were very satisfied with the religious ceremony for its transfer, which was held some weeks with the cooperation of our Swami ", he added.


Mr Sukhoo, reminded the support of the Marathi community of River-black regarding the project and their total collaboration for the realization of the project and the application of the social program.


Were present at this ceremony, members of parliament of the district of Savannah / Black River Alan Ganoo, Marie Josique Radegonde-Haines and Shanti Bai Hanoomanjee, executives members of the Marathi association, the collaborators of the committee Friends of La Balise, including the main socioeconomic actors of the region and all the persons who participated to bring to a successful conclusion this project of relocation of the Kalimaye.
